Frostfire Gemma is the elemental mage of Torchlight Infinite, with one trait for fire, one for cold and one that mixes both. Her second trait, Frostbitten Heart, is the standout: A tier as a starter and S tier in the endgame at the end of SS13.

The short version

  • Gemma 1, Flame of Pleasure, casts a Purgatory zone that makes enemies inside take more damage.
  • Gemma 2, Frostbitten Heart, fires Cold Pulses and Frostbite as you deal cold damage. It is the pick.
  • Gemma 3, Ice-Fire Fusion, alternates fire and cold skills to trigger Frostfire Rampage.
  • Gemma 2 is A tier as a starter and S tier in the endgame. Gemma 3 is B tier, Gemma 1 C tier as starters.

Gemma's traits

Gemma 1: Flame of Pleasure

The trait casts Purgatory, a zone that follows you, casts itself when enemies are close and increases the damage enemies inside take. The nodes add charges and area, execute low life enemies inside it, curse them with Scorch or convert physical damage to fire.

Gemma 2: Frostbitten Heart

Dealing cold damage fires a Cold Pulse at the enemy every few seconds, which inflicts Frostbite and grants bonus cold damage. The tree raises your Frostbite cap and effect, speeds up Cold Pulses, lowers enemy cold resistance and adds extra pulses on Frostbitten targets.

Gemma 3: Ice-Fire Fusion

Casting five fire or cold skills triggers Frostfire Rampage, extra fire and cold damage for five seconds on a cooldown. The nodes reward alternating elements, add penetration and speed, and at level 75 can convert most of your cold damage to fire.

Trait mechanics are summarised from the Torchlight Infinite database. Numbers change between seasons, so check the database or the in-game hero screen for current values.

Which Gemma trait to pick

Pick Gemma 2. Frostbitten Heart was A tier as a starter and S tier in the SS13 endgame, so it carries you from the first day to the last. Gemma 3 is a B tier starter that needs investment, and Gemma 1 is C tier.

The rankings come from our Torchlight Infinite tier list, which is based on how traits finished SS13 Afterlight. Our classes guide compares Gemma with every other hero.

Tips for playing Gemma

  • Go all in on cold with Frostbitten Heart. Cold resistance reduction and Frostbite effect multiply each other.
  • Cold Pulses fire where you hit, so a skill that hits many enemies spreads Frostbite fastest.
  • If you play Ice-Fire Fusion, set up a rotation that alternates elements so Rampage stays up.

For how traits fit together with skills, talents and gear, see the builds guide.

Gemma for farming

Gemma 2 is a strong farmer in the endgame. Its damage comes from hitting things, so a wide area main skill turns it into a fast map clearer. MUSA's Torchlight Infinite bot reads your equipped skills from the game, so it fights with whatever Gemma build you have set up. Automation breaks the game's rules, and our bot safety guide explains the risk.
