Torchlight Infinite tier list for SS13 Afterlight
League starters and endgame builds ranked separately, because the heroes that start a season best are not the ones that end it strongest.
A single tier list for Torchlight Infinite mixes two different questions: which hero should I start the season with, and which hero is strongest once it has gear. The answers overlap less than you would think, so this page answers them separately.

How to read a Torchlight Infinite tier list
Every hero has several traits, and each trait changes the whole playstyle, so tier lists name them with a number: Selena 2, Erika 1. Always check the number before you follow a ranking.
Also check what the list measures. Starter lists care about clearing the campaign and early Netherrealm with no gear. Endgame lists usually lean on player data, such as how often a build appears in the top Divine Ascension and Supreme Showdown rankings, which rewards builds with a lot of currency invested in them.
League starter tier list
This is the list to use in the first week of a season. It follows PixelNitro's SS13 starter tier list.

Endgame tier list
Once a season is a few days old, the builds with the most currency behind them rise to the top. MMOexp's ranking, built on the first days of player data, looks like this.

The same ranking flags Thea's Incarnation build as the weakest performer in Divine Ascension, so it is the one to avoid if you want to push.
Why the two lists disagree
Rosa 2 and Bing 1 are B tier as starters and S tier at the end. They scale hard with gear and struggle before they have it. Thea 3 and Youga 2 do the opposite: excellent early, less dominant once everyone has gear. Selena 2 is the exception that does well on both lists, which is why it is the safest single pick of the season.
A good plan for most players: start on an S tier starter, farm currency with it, then roll one of the endgame scalers once you can afford to gear it.
If farming is all you care about
