Torchlight Infinite Hero Memories explained

Three kinds of memory, four rarities and a long road to level 50. What Hero Memories do, how to level them and which affixes matter.

Hero Memories are items you slot into your hero to add stats on top of your gear. There are three kinds, each with its own base stats, and the best affix on any of them raises your hero trait's level. They matter most in the endgame, but a decent memory is worth slotting as soon as you find one.

The short version

  • Memory of Origin gives attributes and damage, Discipline gives life and defences, Progress gives attack, cast and movement speed.
  • Rarities run Normal, Magic, Rare and Epic, and the best memories raise your hero trait level.
  • Memories level up to 50 with Memory Scraps and Memory Threads.
  • Slots unlock in stages through the Path of Progression.

The three types

TypeBase stats
Memory of OriginStrength, Dexterity, Intelligence and damage
Memory of DisciplineLife, Mana, Armor, Evasion and Energy Shield
Memory of ProgressAttack, cast and movement speed

The three draw from a similar pool of random affixes, so the type mostly decides the base stats. Details are from the Torchlight Infinite database.

Affixes worth looking for

Random affixes come in tiers from 0 to 3, and fixed affixes from 1 to 3. The one that stands out is +2 to Hero Trait Level, which can appear on all three types and strengthens your whole build. Other affixes cover skill area, critical strike, speed and resistances. One SS13 build guide also points out that memories with strong primary attributes or life give a very noticeable boost.

Leveling memories

Memories level up to 50 by spending Memory Scraps, and the later stages also need Memory Threads of the matching rarity. The cost climbs steeply: the database lists amounts rising from a single scrap at the start to 2,500 for the last stages. Memory Scraps also sell well on the Auction House early in a season, so every scrap is a choice between your character and Flame Elementium.

Slots and the Path of Progression

Memory slots open in stages through the Path of Progression, a six stage track of milestones. Early stages unlock two and then three memory slots, and stages along the way give Path of Progression buffs and a Star Talent at level 20. The final milestone is enhancing one memory to level 50.

Practical tips

  • Slot something in every open slot as soon as you can. Even a Magic memory is better than nothing.
  • Save your best scraps for an Epic memory with a trait level affix.
  • Price check good memories before you level them. Some are worth more sold than used.
  • Seasons sometimes add their own memory mechanics, such as SS12's Memory Revival, so check the season guide.

Memories are one part of a build. The builds guide shows how they fit with your trait, skills, talents and gear, and the Auction House guide covers selling the ones you do not need.
