Torchlight Infinite Netherrealm endgame guide
Planes, Timemarks, beacons, Plane Watchers and Cinders explained in order, with the damage, life and gear numbers to aim for before Timemark 7 and 8.
The campaign in Torchlight Infinite ends and the real game starts in the Netherrealm. It is a map system with five planes, a ladder of difficulty tiers called Timemarks and a handful of items that gate your progress. It looks like a lot on day one. In practice it is one loop repeated: open a map, clear it, fill a meter, kill a boss, move up.
The short version
- Beacons open Netherrealm maps. Clearing maps earns points towards that Timemark's Plane Watcher boss.
- Plane Watchers drop Cinders. Cinders unlock the other four planes and, eventually, the endgame bosses.
- First goal: unlock Timemarks 1 to 7 in all five planes. Second goal: farm Timemark 7 comfortably. Timemark 8 comes after that.
- For comfortable T7 farming, guides aim for level 90 to 95, 3,000+ life, capped resistances and item level 80+ gear.
The basic loop
- Use a beacon to open a Netherrealm stage. Each stage needs a specific beacon, and beacon tiers match Timemarks: tier 1 opens Timemarks 1 and 2, tier 2 opens 3 and 4, tier 3 opens 5 and 6, and tier 4 opens 7.
- Clear the map. Each clear gives Monitor Points towards the Plane Watcher of that Timemark.
- With enough points, fight the Plane Watcher. Beating it unlocks the next Timemark in that plane and drops a Cinder.
- Spend Cinders to unlock new planes and features, then repeat higher up.
Beacons drop in the Netherrealm itself, come from the story and NPC exchanges, and can be bought on the Auction House. Three identical beacons trade up for one of the next rank, which helps when you have too many low ones.
The five planes
You start in the Glacial Abyss. The other four open as you collect Cinders.
| Plane | Unlocks at |
|---|---|
| Glacial Abyss | From the start |
| Blistering Lava Sea | 3 Cinders |
| Steel Forge | 8 Cinders |
| Thunder Wastes | 15 Cinders |
| Voidlands | 24 Cinders |
Each Plane Watcher gives one Cinder per Timemark, so with five planes and seven Timemarks there are 35 to collect. The Torchlight Infinite database lists the Void Rift unlocking at 31 Cinders and the Realm Lord at 35.
Stage one: unlock Timemarks 1 to 7
Follow the main quest and push the Plane Watchers in every plane as quickly as you can. The damage you finish the story with usually carries you through Timemarks 2 and 3. Some builds start to struggle around Timemark 4, and that is normal.
Before Timemark 6, gear for survival: life recovery and resistances. After that, start picking up highlighted gear on the floor at item level 80 or higher, since that is the gear you will farm in. When you plan your card deck, the Regretful and Pity cards add focus points per map and speed this stage up.
Stage two: farm Timemark 7
Timemark 7 is where most players settle in and farm for a long time. A popular three-stage guide on TapTap gives these targets for comfortable farming.
| Target | Aim for |
|---|---|
| Character level | 90 to 95 |
| Damage | 10 million to get started, 100 million to be comfortable |
| Life | 3,000 or more |
| Resistances | All three elemental resistances capped, Erosion as high as you can get it |
| Gear | Item level 80 or higher in every slot |
Survival matters more than it seems here, because a death costs you the map. Life regeneration affixes, a Rejuvenation aura and layered defences such as Frost Shield and Delayed Pain keep runs going. Unlock all the trait cards in every plane at Timemark 7 as well, since they carry your farming deck.
Stage three: Timemark 8 and beyond
Timemark 8 pays noticeably better, and it asks for a lot more: the same guide suggests over 100 million damage to farm it smoothly and a billion to be comfortable. A common middle step is to build up your map buffs at Timemark 7 and switch to Timemark 8 for the last one or two maps of a run. Past that sit Profound difficulty and the endgame bosses.
What SS13 Afterlight adds
Every season layers its own mechanic on top of the Netherrealm. In Afterlight it is the Funeral Procession: you escort coffins through the map while waves of enemies attack. Killing fast keeps the procession moving, and slow clears cut the rewards, which is one reason area damage heroes are doing so well this season. Our best heroes for farming post covers which ones.
Running the Netherrealm with a bot
Once you are farming Timemark 7, most of your playtime is the same map loop hundreds of times. That is what MUSA automates. You pick a region, a map and the Timemark, press Start, and it heads for the boss, fights with the skills you have equipped, opens chests and picks up the loot, then takes the exit portal and starts the next map. It revives in town if the character dies and runs the region boss when you have enough Starshards. Clear mode, if you switch it on, clears the whole map before the boss instead of rushing to it.
Common questions
How do you unlock the Netherrealm planes?
By collecting Cinders from Plane Watchers. Blistering Lava Sea opens at 3 Cinders, Steel Forge at 8, Thunder Wastes at 15 and Voidlands at 24.
What Timemark should I farm?
Timemark 7 once you have around 10 million damage, 3,000 life and capped resistances. Move to Timemark 8 only when you can clear it quickly, because a slower map at a higher tier often earns less.
What are beacons in Torchlight Infinite?
Beacons open Netherrealm stages. Each stage needs a specific beacon, and higher Timemarks need higher tier beacons.
