Hero Siege mercenary guide: Knight, Archer or Magister
Three mercenaries, three jobs. Which one fits your build and why so many farmers put magic find gear on a Knight.
Every Hero Siege character can bring one mercenary, and there are three to choose from. The Knight is a tank that farmers dress in magic find gear, the Archer buffs attack speed and the Magister buffs spell damage. The right choice depends on whether you want more loot or more damage.
The short version
- Knight: tanky, usually geared for magic find, which counts for you on kills.
- Archer: an attack speed buff for attack builds.
- Magister: a spell damage buff for casters.
- For the Archer and Magister, stack +all skills and cooldown recovery so the buff is stronger and stays up.
The three mercenaries
| Mercenary | Role | Best for | Gear on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Knight | Tank with a survivability passive tree | Magic find farming | Magic find |
| Archer | Attack speed buff | Attack speed builds | +all skills, cooldown recovery |
| Magister | Magic skill damage buff | Casters | +all skills, cooldown recovery |
Roles are from the official Hero Siege wiki.
The Knight and magic find
Magic find on your mercenary's gear counts for you when you kill monsters, even though it does not appear on your own character sheet. That is why the Knight is the farming favourite: it survives on its own, and every slot can carry magic find without costing your character any damage. Before you sell a magic find item, check whether your Knight can wear it. Our magic find guide explains how the sources stack.
The Archer and Magister
Both are buff mercenaries. The Archer's skill raises attack speed, and the Magister's raises magic skill damage. Their buffs scale with +all skills and stay up longer with cooldown recovery, so gear them for those stats rather than for their own damage. Pick the one that matches your main skill: Archer for attacks, Magister for spells. Our builds guide shows where the mercenary fits in a build.
Which to pick
- Farming character: Knight with magic find gear.
- Pushing difficulty or bosses with an attack build: Archer.
- Pushing with a caster: Magister.
Many players switch: a buff mercenary while they gear up, then a magic find Knight once the character can clear its farm comfortably.
Mercenaries and botting
For long automated farming sessions, a tanky magic find Knight is the natural pick, since it keeps itself alive and adds loot on every kill. MUSA's Hero Siege bot fights with the skills you assign, mines ore, picks up what passes your loot filter, stashes a full bag and resets the map. Panic Art bans for automation online, so read our guide to cheats, trainers and bots before you decide.
