Torchlight Infinite Bing guide: every trait and which to pick
Bing 1 is a slow starter and one of the best endgame builds. How his bombs and Inspiration Machines work.
Escapist Bing is the explosives expert of Torchlight Infinite. His first trait, Blast Nova, turns projectile attacks into bombs and sits at the top of the endgame rankings. It is also a slow starter that needs gear before it shines. His second trait, Creative Genius, is a spell build built around two Inspiration Machines.
The short version
- Bing 1, Blast Nova, throws bombs instead of projectiles. It is S tier in the endgame and B tier as a starter.
- Bing 2, Creative Genius, fuels two Inspiration Machines with Whimsy and Ingenuity for spell damage.
- Bing 1 scales hard with gear, so most players start a season on something else and roll Bing later.
- Bing 2 is A tier in the endgame.
Bing's traits
Bing 1: Blast Nova
A non-channeling projectile main attack throws two bombs instead, with two extra projectiles. Bombs go off a second after landing and spray projectiles in every direction, and you can have up to 10 waiting at once. The nodes trade movement for automatic bomb throws, make bombs explode on landing, scale damage with how many bombs are down, or add damage when you stand near detonations.
Bing 2: Creative Genius
Bing gets two Inspiration Machines fuelled by Whimsy and Ingenuity. Full Whimsy turns spell damage into a Whimsy Explosion, and full Ingenuity lets you fire Ingenuity Overload from the trait skill. The tree is large, with options for speed and damage reduction during Overload, automatic Overloads and more Spell Burst.
Trait mechanics are summarised from the Torchlight Infinite database. Numbers change between seasons, so check the database or the in-game hero screen for current values.
Which Bing trait to pick
Bing 1 is one of the strongest builds in the game once it has gear, and it sits in the S tier of MMOexp's SS13 endgame rankings. It is B tier as a starter, though, so a common plan is to start on an S tier starter, farm Flame Elementium and then gear Bing. Bing 2 is a solid A tier endgame option if you prefer spells.
The rankings come from our Torchlight Infinite tier list, which is based on how traits finished SS13 Afterlight. Our classes guide compares Bing with every other hero.
Tips for playing Bing
- With Blast Nova, the number of bombs on the ground is your damage. Anything that adds projectiles or throws faster helps.
- Plan the gear before you roll Bing 1. Our Auction House guide helps with buying it.
- Creative Genius rewards learning the machines. Watch your Whimsy and Ingenuity bars until it becomes a habit.
For how traits fit together with skills, talents and gear, see the builds guide.
Bing for farming
A geared Bing 1 is one of the fastest farmers in the game. The catch is the gear, which is why he is a second character for most players. MUSA's Torchlight Infinite bot reads your equipped skills from the game, so it fights with whatever Bing build you have set up. Automation breaks the game's rules, and our bot safety guide explains the risk.
Common questions
Is Bing good in Torchlight Infinite?
Yes, in the endgame. Bing 1 is S tier there, but B tier as a starter.
What is Bing 1?
Blast Nova, Bing's first trait. Projectile attacks throw bombs that explode into more projectiles.
Should I start a season on Bing?
Usually not. Start on Selena 2 or Erika 1, farm currency and gear Bing afterwards.
