Torchlight Infinite Carino guide: every trait and which to pick
Three ways to manage ammo. How Carino's traits work, why Carino 2 is the pick and how to play the gunslinger.
Divineshot Carino is the gunslinger of Torchlight Infinite. Every one of his traits makes projectile skills spend ammo for extra damage, and each one handles reloading in its own way. His second trait, Lethal Flash, is the reliable pick, rated A tier as a starter going into SS14.
The short version
- All three traits use a magazine: projectile skills spend ammo for more damage.
- Carino 1, Ranger of Glory, adds special ammo and a manual reload.
- Carino 2, Lethal Flash, auto-reloads, adds two projectiles and is the trait to pick.
- Carino 3, Zealot of War, switches firing modes and builds Heat until the gun overheats.
Carino's traits
Carino 1: Ranger of Glory
Projectile skills spend ammo for extra damage and you reload by clicking the trait, which also speeds you up but blocks projectile skills while reloading. The tree is about special ammo: more slots, a chance for Magic Shot, and a level 75 option that lets special ammo slots hold support skills.
Carino 2: Lethal Flash
The magazine grows and reloads automatically, every round spent adds a large damage bonus and you fire two more projectiles. Casting during a reload interrupts it. The level 45 nodes either send projectiles back along their path or shorten their range for more damage, and Lethal Flash leans on Deflection for defence. Lightning Shot is its featured skill.
Carino 3: Zealot of War
More magazine capacity, two extra projectiles, a faster reload and more damage. At level 45 you can fire blanks and build Heat Up, which raises damage and widens the spread until the gun overheats. Later nodes start you at full heat or turn overheating into a Burning Red state.
Trait mechanics are summarised from the Torchlight Infinite database. Numbers change between seasons, so check the database or the in-game hero screen for current values.
Which Carino trait to pick
Pick Carino 2. Lethal Flash is A tier as a starter, plays smoothly without micromanaging reloads, and clears maps well. Carino 1 is C tier on current lists. Zealot of War does not appear in the rankings, so treat it as an experiment.
The rankings come from our Torchlight Infinite tier list, which is based on how traits finished SS13 Afterlight. Our classes guide compares Carino with every other hero.
Tips for playing Carino
- Projectile speed matters for Lethal Flash, since one of its nodes ties reload speed and quantity to it.
- Stay out of melee range. Lethal Flash rewards keeping enemies at the right distance.
- Deflection is your main defence with Carino 2. Do not neglect it on gear.
For how traits fit together with skills, talents and gear, see the builds guide.
Carino for farming
Carino 2 is a comfortable farmer and one of the builds our farming guide notes loses nothing when automated, because it clears from range without fiddly positioning. MUSA's Torchlight Infinite bot reads your equipped skills from the game, so it fights with whatever Carino build you have set up. Automation breaks the game's rules, and our bot safety guide explains the risk.
