Torchlight Infinite Iris guide: every trait and which to pick

The summoner who fights alongside her spirits. How Spirit Magi work and why Iris 2 is A tier early and S tier late.

The Forsaken Iris is a summoner whose Spirit Magi grow stronger as she feeds them. Her second trait, Vigilant Breeze, merges her with a Spirit Magus and is one of the best builds in Torchlight Infinite: A tier as a starter and S tier in the SS13 endgame.

The short version

  • Both traits use Spirit Magus skills set as active skills, such as Summon Thunder Magus.
  • Iris 1, Growing Breeze, feeds Nourishment stacks to her Spirit Magi for more damage.
  • Iris 2, Vigilant Breeze, merges Iris with her Spirit Magi and builds Breeze stacks.
  • Iris 2 is A tier as a starter and S tier in the endgame.

Iris's traits

Iris 1: Growing Breeze

Casting a Spirit Magus skill set as an active skill also casts the trait, which gives your Spirit Magi Nourishment stacks for more skill damage. The nodes add more Spirit Magi on the map, faster Ultimate recovery and the ability to move while channeling Windrider.

Iris 2: Vigilant Breeze

Casting a Spirit Magus skill merges Iris with her Spirit Magi into the Vigilant state and grants Breeze stacks. Merged Magi lose life each second but gain Breeze over time. The nodes remove cooldowns from merged Ultimates at a life cost, add extra Spirit Magi and share regeneration and damage reduction.

Trait mechanics are summarised from the Torchlight Infinite database. Numbers change between seasons, so check the database or the in-game hero screen for current values.

Which Iris trait to pick

Pick Iris 2. Vigilant Breeze was reliable from the first day of SS13 and reached the top of the endgame rankings, which few traits manage. Iris 1 does not appear on current tier lists.

The rankings come from our Torchlight Infinite tier list, which is based on how traits finished SS13 Afterlight. Our classes guide compares Iris with every other hero.

Tips for playing Iris

  • Choose your Spirit Magi by element. Rock, Fire, Frost, Thunder and Erosion Magus each fit different builds.
  • Watch your life with Vigilant Breeze. Some of its strongest nodes spend it.
  • Iris 2 forgives mistakes better than most traits, which our farming guide points out too.

For how traits fit together with skills, talents and gear, see the builds guide.

Iris for farming

Iris 2 is a reliable farmer at every stage of the season, because her damage does not depend on precise positioning. MUSA's Torchlight Infinite bot reads your equipped skills from the game, so it fights with whatever Iris build you have set up. Automation breaks the game's rules, and our bot safety guide explains the risk.
