Torchlight Infinite Selena guide: every trait and which to pick
Selena 2 is the one trait that ranks well as a starter and in the endgame. How both Selena traits work and how to get the most out of Dance of the Deep.
Tide Whisper Selena is a spellcaster built around water and curses, and her second trait, Dance of the Deep, is the safest pick in Torchlight Infinite going into SS14 Tartarus. It ranked S tier as a starter in SS13 and stayed near the top in the endgame, which almost no other trait managed. Her first trait, Sing with the Tide, plays very differently and is far less common.
The short version
- Selena 2, Dance of the Deep, makes your main Terra skill follow you around, so you clear maps while moving.
- Selena 1, Sing with the Tide, wraps skills in bubbles that leave damage boosting Tides behind.
- Selena 2 is S tier as a starter and A tier in the endgame on our tier list. It is the best single pick if you only make one character.
- She suits farming well, because her damage moves with her and needs little positioning.
Selena's traits
Selena 1: Sing with the Tide
You toggle between two forms. In Bard form your skills are encased in bubbles that travel, burst and cast where they land, leaving a Tide on the ground that adds damage to anything standing in it. Loud Song strengthens the Tide but slows your attacks and movement. Bard form only works with channeled spells and non-instant, non-mobility skills, and the trait tree builds on Tide area and effect.
Selena 2: Dance of the Deep
Your main Terra skill stays centred on you and follows you as you move. Other Terra skills deal no damage, Terra damage takes a 20 percent penalty, and each Terra Charge you consume adds damage back. The level 45 choices add things like a Crimson Tide that makes enemies take more damage or a curse on everything in the area, and the level 75 node summons Crimson Shades based on your Spell Burst stacks.
Trait mechanics are summarised from the Torchlight Infinite database. Numbers change between seasons, so check the database or the in-game hero screen for current values.
Which Selena trait to pick
Pick Selena 2. It progressed quickly on cheap gear in SS13, kept scaling into the endgame and clears maps by walking through them, which is exactly what you want for farming. Sing with the Tide has its fans, but it asks you to manage two forms and stand in your own Tides, and it does not appear on current tier lists.
The rankings come from our Torchlight Infinite tier list, which is based on how traits finished SS13 Afterlight. Our classes guide compares Selena with every other hero.
Tips for playing Selena
- Pick one main Terra skill and build everything around it. With Dance of the Deep, your other Terra skills only matter for the charges and effects they bring.
- Keep moving. Your damage zone is on you, so walking through packs is how you kill them.
- The Terra damage penalty is real early on. Prioritise anything that raises your Terra Charge count or restores charges faster, such as the Layered Hem node at level 60.
For how traits fit together with skills, talents and gear, see the builds guide.
Selena for farming
Selena 2 is one of the easiest traits to farm with, by hand or with a bot, because the damage comes along wherever the character goes. That is why our best heroes for farming puts her near the top. MUSA's Torchlight Infinite bot reads your equipped skills from the game, so it fights with whatever Selena build you have set up. Automation breaks the game's rules, and our bot safety guide explains the risk.
