How to farm Flame Elementium in Torchlight Infinite

Where FE actually comes from in the Netherrealm, which Timemarks are worth it, what to sell and the habits that add the most FE per hour.

Flame Elementium, FE for short, is the currency everything in Torchlight Infinite gets priced in. You need it to craft top gear and to buy from other players, and almost all of it comes from one place: the Netherrealm. How much you earn comes down to how high you farm and what you do with the loot afterwards.

The short version

  • FE drops in the Netherrealm, and the higher the Timemark, the more FE each map is worth.
  • Most of your FE does not drop as FE. It comes from selling embers, compasses, beacons, memories and good gear on the Auction House, which opens at level 60.
  • Guides for the current season put strong Timemark 7 and 8 farms at around 700 FE an hour with fast, one minute clears.
  • Kill speed and map speed matter more than anything else. If you are not geared for full clears yet, rush the boss.

What Flame Elementium is for

Torchlight Infinite has two crafting currencies with similar names. Flame Sand is the basic one, used to add or replace affixes on gear. Flame Elementium is the advanced one, used for Priceless crafting, and it doubles as the currency players trade in. When someone lists an item on the Auction House, the price is in FE.

That second job is why FE matters so much. You can farm the exact item you want, or you can farm FE and buy it. For most players the second route is much faster.

Where FE drops: the Netherrealm

The Netherrealm is the endgame map system. It is split into five planes, and you start with only one of them. You unlock the rest by collecting Cinders, which drop from the Plane Watcher bosses.

Blistering Lava Sea3 Cinders
Steel Forge8 Cinders
Thunder Wastes15 Cinders
Voidlands24 Cinders

Unlock numbers are from the Torchlight Infinite database. Each plane runs at several Timemarks, which work as difficulty tiers. Higher Timemarks have tougher monsters and better drops, and FE income climbs with them. According to Gamezebo's FE guide, FE starts dropping from tier four, so the early Timemarks are for unlocking planes and gearing up more than for earning.

Beacons open Netherrealm stages in a specific plane, and some of them sell well. Glacial Beacons in particular have stayed in steady demand this season.

How much FE per hour to expect

Numbers from this season's guides give a rough idea, and they move with every patch and every market swing. One SS13 farming guide puts a Thunder Wastes farm at around 700 FE an hour, and slower, cheaper setups at around 250. The same guides agree on how you get to the high end: clear each map in about a minute, at Timemark 7 or 8, and do not waste time between maps.

At Timemark 8, clearing 8-0 is worth it if your character can do it comfortably, because the FE drops are noticeably higher there. If it cannot, a slightly lower tier you clear twice as fast earns more.

What to sell, and what to keep

This is where most players leave FE on the table. The Commodity tab in your inventory fills up with things other players want, and it is easy to forget to check it.

  • Embers in all their tiers. Every crafter needs them.
  • Compasses and beacons, especially the ones for popular planes.
  • Memories and Memory Scraps, which sell high early in the season.
  • Winding Keys, Energy Cores and similar commodity items.
  • Legendary gear you are not using. Check prices first; the difference between a trash roll and a good one is often hundreds of FE.

Selling on the Auction House costs a tax. If you have Flame Elementium Vouchers, use them to claim some of it back.

Habits that add the most FE

  1. Kill faster before you loot more. Damage is the biggest multiplier, because it speeds up every map. Most guides agree it is the first thing to invest in.
  2. Rush the boss if you are not geared for full clears. Boss rushing is the safest way to start, especially if you do not own an expensive pet yet.
  3. Stack item rarity and quantity. Trait cards, memory compasses and gear with drop bonuses all raise how much you get per kill.
  4. Pick up everything that matters, every time. Flame Elementium, Flame Sand, embers, beacons and memories add up across hundreds of maps.
  5. Cut the time between maps. Walking back, sorting, reopening a beacon: small delays repeated a few hundred times a day are hours.

Where a bot fits

A lot of FE farming is the same loop repeated: open the map, go to the boss, kill it, open the chests, pick up the loot, take the portal, start again. That loop is what MUSA automates in Torchlight Infinite. It reads your equipped skills from the game, heads for the boss, dodges attacks, opens every chest it passes, picks up Flame Elementium and the other collectibles, and runs the region boss when you have enough Starshards. You keep the part that earns the most: deciding what to sell.

Automation is against the game's rules, and XD does ban for it. Our guide to cheats, trainers and bots explains the risk before you decide.

Common questions

What is the fastest way to get Flame Elementium?

Farm the Netherrealm at the highest Timemark you can clear in about a minute, and sell embers, beacons, compasses and memories on the Auction House instead of waiting for FE to drop directly.

At what Timemark does Flame Elementium drop?

FE starts dropping in the Netherrealm from tier four, and the amount rises as you push to higher Timemarks.

Should I buy Flame Elementium?

Buying FE from third-party sellers breaks the game's rules and can get the account banned, and there is no way to get your money back if a seller does not deliver. Farming it yourself is slower but avoids both problems.
