Should you buy Flame Elementium in Torchlight Infinite?

FE shops, boosting services and account sellers all sell the same thing: time. What each one involves, what can go wrong and the ways to get FE without paying a stranger.

You can find plenty of sites selling Torchlight Infinite Flame Elementium, boosts and whole accounts. All of them are third parties, because XD does not sell FE itself. Buying works often enough that people keep doing it, but it breaks the game's rules, and if anything goes wrong you have nobody to complain to.

The short version

  • XD's own shop sells Primocryst, the premium currency. Flame Elementium only comes from playing and trading, so every FE seller is a third party.
  • Sellers usually deliver through the Auction House: you list a cheap item and they buy it for the FE you paid for. That trade is visible to XD.
  • The risks are a ban, losing the FE in a rollback, and a seller who takes the money and never delivers. Boosts and bought accounts add the risk of losing the account itself.
  • Faster farming and better selling close much of the gap without any of that risk.

Why people buy FE

Flame Elementium is the currency everything is priced in. It pays for top-end crafting, and every listing on the Auction House is in FE, so a player with a lot of it can buy the exact gear their build needs instead of hoping it drops. Our currency guide explains how FE fits in with Flame Sand, embers and the rest.

A season lasts about three months. Someone who starts late, or plays a couple of hours a week, will never farm the FE that a full-time player makes, and the gap in gear is easy to see. Buying FE closes that gap in an evening.

What XD sells, and what it does not

The game is free to play. Real money buys Primocryst, the premium currency, and the paid season pass. Primocryst pays for things like Pactspirit draws, extra bag space, booth tabs and outfits. According to Gfinity's guide, it cannot be used to buy gear on the Auction House.

So there is no official way to turn money into Flame Elementium. Every site offering "cheap TLI FE" is a player or a business farming it and reselling it outside the game. Our page on whether Torchlight Infinite is pay to win goes through the official store in more detail.

How buying FE usually works

You cannot hand currency to another player directly, so sellers use the market. The usual method is that you list a worthless item on the Auction House at the price you paid for, and the seller's account buys it. The FE lands in your account minus the market tax.

That method leaves a trail. A low-level item selling for thousands of FE, bought by an account that does nothing but buy overpriced items, is an easy pattern to spot. The trade is recorded on XD's servers, along with both accounts involved.

XD's public notice on the subject, posted on TapTap in October 2022, is titled "Prohibition on Offline Trading and the Use of Third-party Tools", and it says accounts involved will be banned. Offline trading here means trading for real money outside the game. Bans players report on the Steam forums, for rule breaks of all kinds, run from a few days to permanent, and XD does not publish the reason for individual bans.

If a seller disappears with your payment, XD will not help, because the sale broke its rules in the first place. Account sales have their own catch: the game logs in through a TapTap account, and whoever created that account can often recover it later.

Getting FE without paying a stranger

Most of the FE gap between casual and full-time players comes from hours played and from how well each hour is used, and the second part is easy to improve.

  1. Farm at the right Timemark. A tier you clear in about a minute earns more than a higher one you crawl through. The Flame Elementium farming guide has the numbers.
  2. Sell what you already have. Embers, beacons, compasses and memories sell steadily, and they fill your Commodity tab without you noticing.
  3. Price check before you sell gear. A good legendary roll can be worth hundreds of FE more than a bad one.
  4. Pick a hero that farms well on little gear. Our best heroes for farming covers the cheap starters.
  5. Start on day one of a season, when prices are high and few players have reached the endgame yet. The new season checklist helps with that.

Where a farming bot fits

A bot is the other way to buy time: instead of paying for someone else's FE, you pay for software that farms on your own account while you are away. MUSA runs the Netherrealm loop for you, from heading to the boss to opening chests and picking up Flame Elementium. The FE it earns is yours and comes from normal drops, so there are no suspicious Auction House trades.

Automation is still against the game's rules, and XD bans for it. Read our guide to cheats, trainers and bots before you decide, then look at the Torchlight Infinite bot if the trade-off makes sense to you.

Common questions

Can you buy Flame Elementium from XD?

No. The official store sells Primocryst, the premium currency, and Primocryst does not buy gear on the Auction House. All FE for sale comes from third-party sellers.

Can you get banned for buying FE in Torchlight Infinite?

Yes. XD prohibits trading for real money outside the game and bans the accounts involved. Buying usually goes through an Auction House trade, so it leaves a record.

Is it safe to buy a Torchlight Infinite account?

It is the riskiest option. Bought accounts break the rules, and the person who made the account can often take it back through account recovery.

What is the fastest legit way to get FE?

Farm the highest Timemark you clear in about a minute and sell embers, beacons, compasses and memories on the Auction House instead of waiting for FE to drop.
