Torchlight Infinite leveling guide for SS13
The campaign takes about two hours if you keep moving. Here is where the XP comes from, which heroes level fastest and what to upgrade first.
The Torchlight Infinite campaign is short for an ARPG. Guides for this season put it at around two hours for someone who knows the route, and some players do it faster with a strong starter. Most of the time people lose comes from clearing things that are not worth clearing.
The short version
- Keep moving. Elites and bosses give far more XP for the time than trash packs.
- Start on a hero that clears with no gear: Selena 2, Rehan 2 or Moto 2 are good picks this season.
- If you fall behind the campaign's level, run a Treasure Trove a few times to catch up.
- Upgrade your weapon first, pick up a mobility skill early, and put your first talent points into the God of War tree.
Pick a starter that levels itself
The fastest levelers have wide area damage, because every pack you kill in one cast is XP you did not have to walk for. Skills that chain or explode are ideal. PixelNitro's SS13 leveling guide recommends these three.

Where the XP actually is
Once your build works, regular trash packs stop being worth the time. Elites and bosses give much more experience for the seconds you spend on them, so push towards them and let the rest go. The one exception is a dense pack right on your path, which a good area skill clears in passing.
Treasure Troves are the catch-up button. They pack a lot of experience and loot into a small area, and running one a few times brings your level back in line with the campaign when bosses start to feel too tanky.
Gear while you level
Do not stop to compare every drop. The game marks upgrades for you, so trust the indicator and keep going. A few priorities make a real difference.
- Your weapon first. It is the biggest single jump in damage.
- Energy on gear matters for supporting linked skills, often more than raw armour.
- Salvage what you do not wear. It turns into crafting materials you will want later.
- Pick up a mobility skill, such as Leap Attack, Spiral Strike or Blur, as early as you can. It speeds up everything.
Talents and progression systems
Put your early talent points into the God of War tree, which gives bonuses that help every build. Alongside it, upgrade your Hero Memories to purple quality when you can, and keep upgrading your Divinity Slates as you go. None of these are exciting, but together they add up to a lot of power by the time you reach the Netherrealm.
The Afterlight mechanic while leveling
This season's Funeral Procession shows up while you level, too. If the lantern stays green, you are clearing fast enough and the rewards are good. If it drops to yellow or red while you are still weak, skip it and come back later instead of fighting it at a crawl. The Afterlight season guide explains how it works.
Moving into the Netherrealm
After the campaign, the Netherrealm takes over as your main source of XP and loot. Work up the Timemarks in order, collecting Cinders from the Plane Watchers to unlock the other planes, until you reach Timemark 7, where most players settle in to farm.
