Torchlight Infinite account and login guide

Why the Steam version asks for a third-party account, how one account works across PC and mobile, what to do when login fails and how to keep the account safe.

Torchlight Infinite runs one account across PC and mobile, and that is why the Steam version asks you to bind a third-party account such as TapTap, Google or Apple. Once it is set up you can log in on any device and find the same characters. Most login trouble comes from binding the wrong account, so it is worth getting right the first time.

The short version

  • The Steam version requires a third-party account bind, such as TapTap, Google or Apple, because PC and mobile share servers.
  • The same account and characters work on PC, Android and iOS.
  • Pick the right server when you log in, or your characters will seem to be missing.
  • Never share your login or buy an account. Both are common ways to lose one.

Why Steam asks for another account

The Steam store page says the game requires you to bind a third-party account, like TapTap, to log in. Torchlight Infinite started as a mobile and PC game from XD, and its accounts are built around the logins phones use: TapTap, XD's own platform, plus Google and Apple. Binding one of these to your Steam login is what lets the same character appear on your phone.

Setting it up

  1. Launch the game through Steam and choose a login method when asked. TapTap, Google and Apple are the usual options.
  2. Use an account you control and will keep. Your characters are tied to it.
  3. To play on mobile too, install the game and log in with the same third-party account.
  4. Pick the same server you play on PC. Each server has its own characters.

Players on the Steam forums report that switching an existing Steam login to a different third-party account works through the in-game account centre: bind the new account, unbind the old Steam link, then log in through Steam again and choose to bind an existing account. Some also report that the new third-party account must never have been used with Torchlight Infinite before. XD has changed these steps over time, so check the in-game account centre first.

Common login problems

  • Characters missing: you are probably on a different server than usual. Switch server on the login screen.
  • Cannot bind an account: the account may already be bound to another Torchlight Infinite login. Try one that has never been used with the game.
  • Twitch drops not arriving: link your accounts through the official page. Our Twitch drops guide covers the details.
  • Banned or locked: appeals go through the in-game customer service centre.

Keeping your account safe

The account holds everything you have unlocked: heroes, traits, Pactspirits and anything bought with Primocryst. A few habits protect it.

  • Bind it to an account you own with a strong password and two-factor login where the provider offers it.
  • Never give your login to a boosting service. Someone else playing your account is a security risk and against the rules.
  • Do not buy accounts. The original owner can often recover them through the third-party account they were made with. Our page on buying FE, boosts and accounts explains the risks.
  • Close AutoHotkey and macro tools before you play. Players report bans for them, as our cheats and bots guide explains.

One account, every platform

Because PC and mobile share the account, you can play wherever suits you and pick up where you left off. Our platforms guide compares PC and mobile and covers the console rumours. If you run MUSA's Torchlight Infinite bot on PC, what it farms is on your account when you open the game on your phone.

Common questions

Do I need a TapTap account for Torchlight Infinite?

On Steam you need a third-party account. TapTap is one option, Google and Apple are others.

Can I play the same character on PC and mobile?

Yes. Log in with the same account and pick the same server.

Why are my characters gone?

Usually because you logged into a different server. Season characters also move to the permanent server when a season ends, as the new season checklist explains.

How do I appeal a ban?

Through the customer service centre in the game.
