Torchlight Infinite legendary gear and loot explained
Five tiers of legendary, corrosion that can make or ruin an item, and the loot habits that turn drops into Flame Elementium.
Most of what drops in Torchlight Infinite is worth little, and a small part of it is worth a lot. Legendary gear comes in five tiers, from Common up to Ultimate Legendary, and corrosion can change a legendary for better or worse. Knowing what to pick up, what to keep and what to sell is most of the loot game.
The short version
- Legendary gear has five tiers: Common, Fine, Precious, Matchless and Ultimate Legendary, each with its own drop colour.
- Corrosion is a gamble that can upgrade, reroll or ruin a legendary's affixes.
- Check both the corroded and uncorroded price of a legendary before you sell it.
- Commodities like embers, beacons and memories are usually worth more than random gear.
Legendary tiers
The Torchlight Infinite database lists five legendary tiers, each with its own drop frame colour.
- Common Legendary
- Fine Legendary
- Precious Legendary
- Matchless Legendary
- Ultimate Legendary
Higher tiers are rarer and usually worth more, but value depends on the item and its rolls. A low tier legendary that a popular build needs can sell for more than a high tier one nobody uses.
Corrosion
Corrosion is a crafting step that changes a legendary unpredictably. Community guides split it into Darkness Corrosion and Darkest Corrosion, with outcomes that can swap base affixes, reroll values, upgrade affixes or simply mark the item as corroded. It uses materials from season gameplay.
Because the result is random, the same item can be worth very different amounts corroded and uncorroded. Always check both prices on the Auction House before you sell or corrode a legendary.
What to pick up
- Flame Elementium, Flame Sand and embers every time.
- Beacons, compasses, memories and Memory Scraps. They sell steadily.
- Legendaries, until you know which ones are worth nothing for your season.
- Gear at item level 80 or higher once you reach the later Timemarks, since that is what you craft on.
- Seasonal items, which often sell best in the first weeks.
A Pactspirit with auto pick-up handles much of this. The AFK farming guide explains the basic and advanced settings, and the Pactspirits guide covers Drop Pactspirits that raise how much you find.
Keep or sell
Keep what your build uses and sell almost everything else. Gear that does not fit your build is only worth its sale price, and holding it in your stash earns nothing. The Auction House guide covers price checking and listing, and the currency guide explains crafting materials.
Getting more loot
More loot comes from more maps and from better map modifiers. Drop Pactspirits, trait cards, compasses and gear with drop bonuses all raise quantity, and the higher Timemarks drop better items. The FE farming guide shows where to farm, and the Timemark 8 and Profound guide covers the top end.
MUSA's Torchlight Infinite bot picks up collectibles, opens chests and stashes gear when your bags fill, so loot keeps coming in while you are away. Automation breaks the game's rules, and our bot safety guide explains the risk.
Common questions
What is Ultimate Legendary gear?
The highest of the five legendary tiers, above Matchless Legendary.
Should I corrode my legendary?
Only after checking prices. Corrosion is random, and a corroded item can be worth much more or much less.
What loot is worth the most?
It changes by season. Embers, beacons, memories, seasonal items and well rolled legendaries are the usual money makers.
